Maybe we as a family have a way of finding the silver lining in anything but over all today we felt a bit more knowledgeable in moms situation and some relief in the possibility of her not having an extended hospital stay nor nursing home stay during her recovery.
Here is the synopsis of today's visit:
First mom needs a CT scan, MRI and MRA. This will determine if the tumor has metastasized or spread anywhere else and the MRA to identify the vessel/blood supply involved in this tumor if any. Her appointment for these tests are for this Thurs Oct 28th at 9:00 am and the results will be called to her Neurologist.
She then needs a pre-op appointment with her primary Doctor which is scheduled for Nov 9th at 2:15. Then comes the tentative date and time of Nov 11th at 12:20 for her surgery. The Neurologist feels that her health/condition will not be compromised with the date being Nov 11th and he feels that due to the location of the tumor there is not a risk of a stroke in the mean time. However there is a risk of seizures and therefore she needs to take it easy.
If there are a lot of vessel involved with the tumor (which would show on the MRA), she would go in the day before (Nov 10th) to have those areas taken care of prior to surgery. The surgery should take 5-8 hours give or take, he suspects it will be longer then 5 hours for sure. The Neurologist plans on removing the part of skull that the tumor is located and removing the tumor and surrounding areas involved. He will then place a titanium mesh over that area and close her up. He is not sure if he will be able to get all of the tumor and because the tumor extends far back into the temporal lobe area near the base of the skull. If he is unable to remove all of it the rest will be treated with radiation. This would not happen until a few days after surgery since he wants to give this area time to heal first. He stated once incision is healed hair will start to grow back and you won't be able to tell anything was done except it might be slightly flattened on that side. He suspects she won't have to be on a ventilator while in surgery and once she wakes up from surgery she will be moved to an intermediate room (not ICU and not reg room). She will spend a few days in the hospital and if no rehab is needed she can return to home with care. Her expressive aphasia she has now (using the wrong word ex: when she means to say chocolate, she might say potato chips) should be reversed post surgery. She should be able to talk without difficulty finding her words but this will take time and he said it may get worse after surgery before it gets better. This is all very good news. We just have to pray that the ct scan and MRI of her brain show no other tumors besides the one in her head. Mom was very happy about not having to be in the hospital for a long time, being able to return to home and being able to express her feelings and thoughts correctly.
We need to pray that there are no more tumors throughout her body and the tumor she has is not receiving a blood supply from her brain. Please keep her in your prayers as she has a long road ahead of her.

So happy that the neurologist had a positive outlook! Glad that grandma wont have to be in the hospital for a long time either. Just a bump in the road and she'll be better before we know it! Will keep praying.. Jadyn and I love you so much Grandma!

Peggy you're in my thoughts and prayers. There a lot of people at Doors as well that have expressed their concern and hope that you get well soon. Hopefully God grants the doctors the ability to fix you up so that you will be with your family for a long time yet. God's Blessings.
